If you own a major name brand car, you’ll already be aware of the various “degrees of difficulty” in terms of keeping the car properly serviced. You’ll also be aware of the large amount of money that has to be covered by your car insurance. Even if you’ve got that sort of money to burn, it doesn’t make much business sense not to get the best deal you can.

Best practice for insurance and servicing for expensive cars is to use market leaders as benchmarks for getting the best deals. The truth is that expensive cars come with some baggage in terms of servicing and insurance. A further degree of difficulty has been added by the inclusion of proprietary technology in cars like Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari and other top brands. This is where the idea that these cars are “rich kid toys” wears thin. The service requirements aren’t cosmetic. These cars need top of the line parts and technology, and costs are likely to match.

Insurance options

You need to speak to an insurance specialist and you may also want to check out specialist websites regarding your particular make of car. Taking Porsche as an example, you may find yourself dealing with a high value annual premium and some “interesting” questions about your driving record. Even your age may affect your insurance costs, in some cases.

For insurance, you need to see relative values between policies to properly evaluate cover. You need, therefore, to do your homework. The information you’ll need is pretty basic, but important:

  • Get car insurance quotes – You need to see your cover values upfront. Ask questions and look at comprehensive car insurance deals.
  • Check out any specific issues with insurance calculations- These can vary a lot, and may include:
  1. Age
  2. Gender
  3. Points on the driving license (These can be penalties.)
  4. Crime areas
  5. Driving history

This may take a while, and you may also want to use an insurance broker to check out the policies in depth. This is a good defensive move to ensure you get market value comparisons.

Servicing options

The other issue for expensive name brand cars is almost equally complex, but you can do yourself a real favour by getting fussy about who does your service. You also have a few other elements on your side like manufacturer’s warranty and dealer warranties, which can be quite good.

In terms of car service, you want a car service company with good technical capabilities and full spectrum service. The long term issue, however, is quality. If you’ve got a BMW, you’ll naturally be looking for an accredited BMW service option. This is just common sense, but like any practical option, you need to cover all the angles. When you need on-road or on-site surface, your best approach is definitely to look for an all-areas, full service option to deal with these relatively minor issues and ensure you can get high quality service on tap and on time.

Take your time, and really check out your options. You’ll be able to protect your car and your peace of mind.
